The Jewish Voice (St. Louis, Missouri) (April 12, 1907)
The entire civilized humanity is under the impression of the terrible events to which thousands upon thousands of innocent Jews of Moldavia fell victim. In many cities and villages, livelihoods have been destroyed and unfortunate people, who were already fighting hard for their existence, have been robbed of their last possessions. Small merchants have been driven from their looted shops, and craftsmen have had their tools stolen, some destroyed. The desperate cry of the homeless, the hungry, the tortured and the frightened and, last but not least, the declassed - the many who tremble at the thought that they will no longer be able to feed their families as before, but will have to resort to begging - this shrill cry of distress must echo in everyone feeling human breasts. The tear of compassion must be translated into a powerful act if it is to have a redeeming, pain-relieving and liberating effect. From the scene of the ent. The ultimate misfortune goes out to all noble-minded people whose hearts are for humanity and truth
