The Jewish Voice (St. Louis, Missouri) (May 25, 1894)

ROUMANIA. It was mentioned recently that the King of Roumania had given a sympathetic reception to a memorial from Jews in the rural communes of Moldavia, over whom expulsion is impending, and had recommended the deputation which had come to Bucharest to bring their plaint, in his name, before the Prime Minister. The result of this step having been only partially satisfactory, the deputation again proceeded to the Capital after the Greek Easter to demand from His Majesty that he should himself render justice to his loyal subjects and not leave them at the mercy of Ministers whose injustice is flagrant.

A few weeks ago the Crown Prince and Princess of Roumania visited Jassy. Their Royal Highnesses gave an extremely cordial reception the representatives of the Jewish community, which, it is said, displeased the Prime Minister who accompanied them, for the Minister reproached the Prefect and the Mayor on account of his having presented the Jews to their Royal Highnesses.
