The Jews of Roumania may now regard the degrading oath More Judaico as a thing of the past. Recently Dr. Niemirower, Rabbi of Jassy, was sentenced by a local court to a fine of fifty francs for refusing to swear More Judaico when called as a witness. Dr. Neimirower appealed from the decision, which was quashed this last month by the Court of Cassation, which decided that the oath More Judaico could not be imposed on Jews, and that the customary formula prescribed by the Roumanian Code is sufficient.
