Terrible Distress in Roumania.

Dr. Armand Kaminka, secretary of the Austrian Israelite Alliance, has just returned from a journey through Roumania, where he had proceeded for the purpose of concluding the relief work on behalf of the victims of the late disturbances. He states that the situation is a very sad one for the Roumanian Jews, and is growing worse from day to day. Consequently, it has not been found possible to suspend the relief operations. The Roumanian Government is practically conducting a war of extermination against the poorest Jews, the policy of expulsion from the villages, and the destruction of business connections constituting a silent, bloodless massacre, conducted in defiance of the provisions of the Treaty of Berlin. Dr. Kaminka regards emigration as the only possible relief for a large number of Jews of Northern Moldavia. At the last sitting of the Central Committee in Jassy, the relief granted had to be curtailed, owing to the promised contribution from England not having come up to expectation and the fund being exhausted. The Austrian Alliance has sent a further 50,000 francs to the Jassy district, 90,000 francs to the Botoschani district, and has made a grant of 10,000 francs for expelled families.
